The DuPont Environmental Education Center opened in 2009 at the western end of Wilmington’s one-mile Riverwalk, conveniently located off Exit 6 on Interstate 95. This four-story, 14,000-square-foot facility sits by the Christina River estuary inside the 212-acre Russell W. Peterson Urban Wildlife Refuge. A raised footbridge provides access while also preventing foot traffic from damaging the fragile ecosystem.

This nature center is staffed by employees of the Delaware Nature Society. Attractions include year-round exhibits and activities, which you can hear about in this YouTube video: http://ow.ly/STbHD. You can also enjoy a virtual tour in this TV episode by PPI Television: http://ow.ly/To2U6.

Other amenities include a catering area, multi-purpose room, classrooms, and viewing decks within sight of an ecologically sensitive marsh.

Please click the link above for the center's seasonal operating hours. The Russell W. Peterson Urban Wildlife Refuge is open from dawn until dusk.
