Glasgow County Park may well be the crown jewel of New Castle County's park system. For one thing, it offers 250 acres -- more open space than many state parks can claim. This land is home to a 2.7-mile, paved walkway that loops around a variety of fun attractions. One of these is "Bear Mountain," a massive sledding hill that may be the biggest around. This is especially popular given how Delaware has the lowest average elevation in America — just 60 feet above sea level.
Those who haven't visited in years will marvel at $10 million in improvements made to the park. This includes construction of the Glasgow Regional Skate Park, which opened in March 2012 near the park's playground and the Bear-Glasgow Family YMCA. It also included a bark park for dogs in August 2013. This is located at the western end of the park, close to the intersection of U.S. 40 and Route 896. The latest addition is the H!GH Five Park, Delaware's first inclusive park for children on the autism spectrum.
