The Kalmar Nyckel is the official tall ship of Delaware, and rightly so. It's modeled after the Swedish ship that first explored Delaware Bay in 1638 while delivering settlers to New Sweden, or modern-day Wilmington.
Tours and sailing excursions are available out of the ship's home port on the Christina River estuary. Visitors there can tour the new Tatiana and Gerret Copeland Maritime Center. This is a three-story maintenance and education center constructed in 2014. You can also find the ship docked throughout the region as it sails from event to event. Check its schedule for opportunities.
