The centerpiece of Bellevue State Park is Bellevue Hall. Its most popular attraction is arguably its outdoor concerts every Thursday and Sunday during summer.
Bellevue Hall is a mansion that was once home to the famous DuPont family. This 1855 estate was remodeled in 1928 to be a replica of Montpelier, the Virginia home of President James Madison. It has been open for public use since 1976, and its facilities include tennis courts, equestrian stables, gardens, and a picturesque pond set amid woodlands, fields, and both natural and groomed trails. The park offers an 18-hole disc golf course that is just perfect for those who are new to this fun, outdoor sport. That or enjoy a leisurely stroll on the 1.1-mile fitness track.
Take the kids to Bellevue State Park and enjoy the Beautiful View Garden for Children, completed in 2008. Aside from playground equipment, this section of the park includes a:
■ child-sized gazebo
■ pet rocks
■ "slow food," or vegetable garden
■ story-time circle
■ wildlife observatory, and more
