Abbott's Mill Nature Center is operated by the Delaware Nature Society as part of the Milford Millponds Nature Preserve. The 313-acre preserve features an interactive nature center, miles of trails, canoe and kayak access, and a working historic grist and roller mill. It's staff offers hands-on programming for families, schools, and other groups, like Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Educational and recreational experiences include historic mill tours, nature and ecology studies, canoeing, Native American lectures, and survival skills.
Trails and a streamside boardwalk are open to the public from dawn until dusk. The Nature Center, meanwhile, is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and admission is free.
Bring the whole family to enjoy Native American displays and wildlife taxidermy, or the center's live fish, amphibians, and reptiles. That or venture outdoors to see if you can spot these and other animals in the wild. Believe it or not, over 160 species of birds have been recorded in the nature preserve throughout the years.
